Let’s Talk: What Actually Happens in a Discovery Meeting

If you’ve ever reached out about getting a new website and been told, “Let’s set up a discovery call,” your first thought might be: cool… but what does that even mean?

At True Mtn, we get it. When someone suggests a “discovery call,” it can sound a little formal – or like it’s going to be a sales pitch in disguise. But that’s not how we do things. There’s no jargon, no PowerPoint, no pressure. It’s just a laid-back chat about your business, your goals, and how a website can actually support the work you’re already doing.

We want to make sure we’re a good fit and we know what you need out of a website. So, here’s a look at what actually happens when you hop on a discovery call with us.

Easy ideas for improving your website for 2025.

It’s a Conversation, Not a Sales Pitch

First things first: we’re not here to corner you with a sales pitch. This is just a conversation. We want to hear about your business, your goals, and your ideas for your site. No pressure, no commitment.

You don’t need to have a plan or a strategy mapped out. In fact, a lot of people we talk to don’t. That’s totally fine. We’ll ask questions to get a sense of where you’re at and what you’re hoping to get out of your website.

Some things we usually ask:

  • What does your business offer?
  • What do you want people to do when they land on your site?
  • What’s working (or not working) with your current site?
  • Are there websites out there that you love?

These questions help us get a feel for your vibe. Are you going for polished and professional? Laid back and personal? We want your site to look and feel like your business.

You Don’t Have to Have It All Figured Out

We know the idea of getting a new website can feel overwhelming. Maybe your current site feels outdated, or maybe you’ve never had one at all. That’s okay.

The discovery meeting is where we help you sort through all that. We’ll talk about your timeline, your budget, and what makes the most sense for your business. Whether you want a lean, simple website or something with more moving parts, we’ll help you sketch out the big picture.

We’ll also walk you through how we work. At True Mtn, we believe the best sites happen when we collaborate. We bring the tools and know-how, and you bring the vision. We’ll guide the process, but you’re in the driver’s seat.

Show Us What You Like

One of the most helpful things you can bring to a discovery meeting is inspiration. Have a few sites you love? Show us. Got a Pinterest board full of ideas? Send it over. Even a napkin sketch helps.

We don’t copy sites, but knowing what you like helps us zero in on what makes sense for you. We’ll talk through colors, layout, functionality – whatever stands out to you. And if you don’t have a single idea, that’s not a problem. We’ll show you examples and walk you through it.

No, We’re Not Fixing That Old Site

This is where we’re upfront. We don’t take on broken or outdated websites and try to patch them up. That’s not what we do. If your site’s not working, it probably needs more than a fresh coat of paint.

We’d rather build something solid from scratch – something modern, mobile-friendly, fast, and designed with your current business goals in mind. You don’t need to cling to an old framework that’s not serving you. Starting fresh is often faster, cheaper, and just plain better in the long run.

After the Call

Once we’ve talked it through and you decide you’re ready to move forward, we’ll send over a proposal. It’ll outline what we’re building, how long it’ll take, and what it’ll cost. No surprises, no fine print.

From there, we’re off and running. You’ll work directly with our team on content, design, and feedback. We keep things moving and check in often so nothing falls through the cracks. And even after the site launches, we’re around. Need a tweak? Want to add a new page in six months? Just reach out.
