Drive Clean Indiana

Indiana's only DOE Clean Cities Coalition needed a site that could inform businesses, governments, and communities about cleaner fuels and connect them to the resources to act.

The project

Drive Clean Indiana is Indiana's only Department of Energy Clean Cities Coalition, working since 1999 to connect businesses, governments, and communities across all 92 counties with the alternative fuels, clean vehicles, and funding resources they need to reduce petroleum use and improve air quality. The organization operates at the intersection of policy, education, and industry partnerships, serving a wide range of audiences from fleet managers exploring biodiesel or natural gas to community members curious about electric vehicles. The site had to hold all of that together while keeping each visitor oriented and moving toward what they came to find.

How it came together

We organized the site around the three ways Drive Clean Indiana moves the state forward: strategic expertise, funding solutions, and state-wide advocacy. Each major audience, whether a business looking to convert a fleet, an organization seeking grant resources, or an industry partner considering membership, gets a clear path from the first screen. The hero leads with the mission in plain terms and offers two direct routes: explore fuels and vehicles, or become a member. Navigation is broken into focused sections covering fuels, projects, resources, and membership so visitors never have to guess where to go. The design stays clean and purposeful throughout, letting the coalition's reach and credibility speak without noise.

Design features we tailored

Mission-first hero

The headline 'Cleaner Fuels. Cleaner Air. A Stronger Indiana.' states the coalition's purpose immediately, set over aerial photography of the state to anchor the scale of the work.

Two direct calls to action

Explore Fuels & Vehicles and Become a Member sit side by side in the hero, giving fleet managers and potential members each a clear next step from the very first screen.

Fuels and vehicles resource hub

A dedicated Fuels & Vehicles section covers Biodiesel, Electricity, Ethanol, Hydrogen, Natural Gas, and Propane so businesses and fleets can find the information relevant to their situation.

Membership given its own path

A full Membership section with its own nav item and a 'Your Membership Opens Doors' segment makes it easy for industry contacts and organizations to understand the value and take the next step.

Events and news surfaced up front

The annual Clean Air Golf Outing and a News & Events section keep the coalition's activity visible, signaling an active organization rather than a static resource page.

Built mobile-first

Visitors arrive from a wide range of devices, so the layout, navigation, and resource sections are built to load fast and work cleanly on any screen size.
