Mental Health America of Northwest Indiana

A long-standing mental health nonprofit that needed a warm, clear site to connect families with the programs that help them.

The project

Mental Health America of Northwest Indiana has served the region since 1957, transforming communities through education, empowerment, and family strength. Rather than traditional clinical care, the organization focuses on early intervention and family support, running a wide range of free programs from Healthy Families and Parents as Teachers to Open Door Social Club, Wellness Works, and workplace mental health training, out of offices in Hammond and Valparaiso. With that many programs serving different ages and needs, the central challenge was clarity: a parent, a teen, an employer, or a donor each needs to quickly find what is relevant to them. The site had to feel welcoming and trustworthy while making a deep catalog of programs easy to navigate.

How it came together

We led with the mission in plain, hopeful language and warm photography of the families and communities the organization serves, so a first-time visitor immediately understands the tone and the purpose. The programs are organized so different audiences can find their path quickly, whether that is a parent looking for home visiting support or an employer seeking workplace training. Because many programs are free, that fact is surfaced to remove hesitation and encourage people to reach out. Both office locations are presented clearly for a region-wide audience, and clear paths to get help, get involved, and support the work give every type of visitor an obvious next step. The site is built mobile-first and ADA-minded, fitting for an organization centered on access.
