Midwest Training & Ice Center

A multi-sport facility with a huge program catalog that needed a site to help families find and register for the right one.

The project

Midwest Training & Ice Center has served Northwest Indiana since 2006 from its Dyer location, combining an Olympic-sized ice arena with a state-of-the-art gymnasium. The program catalog is enormous: hockey, figure skating, learn-to-skate, open skate, and rat hockey on the ice; artistic gymnastics, trampoline and tumbling, parkour, competitive cheer, and dance in the gym; plus combat sports. Families come for very different reasons, a toddler's first tumbling class, an adult learn-to-play hockey league, a competitive gymnast's training, so the central challenge was helping each visitor cut through a deep catalog to the program and schedule that fits. The site had to organize all of it clearly and make registration easy.

How it came together

We organized the site around the two halves of the facility, ice and gym, so a visitor instantly heads toward the side they came for, then breaks each into clear programs by type and skill level. Photography of real athletes, from open skate to competitive cheer, conveys the energy and the range. The award recognition and the years serving the Region are surfaced as trust signals for parents choosing where to invest their kids' time. Because the facility runs on registration, the mobile app and clear sign-up paths are surfaced so families can register and check schedules without friction. The site is built mobile-first, matching how busy parents manage it all.

Design features we tailored

Ice and gym, clearly split

The two halves of the facility get distinct paths so a visitor instantly heads toward hockey and skating or gymnastics and cheer.

Programs by type and level

Each side breaks into clear programs by skill level, so a first-timer and a competitive athlete both find exactly where they belong.

Energy shown in photos

Photography of real athletes from open skate to competitive cheer conveys the range and energy of the facility at a glance.

Awards build parent trust

Best of the Region recognition and years serving NWI since 2006 are surfaced for parents deciding where to invest their kids' time.

Registration made easy

The mobile app and clear sign-up paths are surfaced so families can register and check schedules without friction.

Built mobile-first

Busy parents juggle schedules and registration from their phones, so the programs and sign-up flow are tuned for any screen size.
